One of Taido’s most outstanding and bright young black belts, Sudarshan Muralidhar, recently tried out for the Governor’s Honors Program at Northview High School in the area of Social Studies. Sudarshan has passed the county level, and is now up for consideration at the state level!
Starting from the age of seven, Sudarshan joined the Taido School with the goal of one day becoming a black belt. Through incredible dedication to the art, Sudarshan achieved his goal of black belt at summer camp last year. Sudarshan has recently started to excel as a valuable teacher for the children’s classes, which he describes as his new “Favorite” part of Taido.
In addition to being an outstanding student in the classroom and in the dojo, Sudarshan also excels in other areas. Sudarshan is extremely gifted playing the flute, and is part of the prestigious Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony sponsored by Emory University.
The Taido School wishes Sudarshan the best as he attempts to become part of the state’s Governor’s Honors Program!
“ Taido has helped me throughout my life. Sensei's aphorisms and Taido philosophy provide a view of life that cannot be duplicated by anything else. For example, when I am preparing for an audition, I work with the discipline and never-give-up spirit of Taido. During the audition, I realize, as Sensei is fond of saying, that I have only one shot, and I have to go out and do my best. Doing Taido has made me a lot less shy, and far more confident than I could be otherwise. While other people often get nervous before performances, auditions, and speeches, I only have to tell myself that, if I can survive Sensei's training, anything and everything else is a piece of cake. When in the the Governor's Honors Program interview, I was able to speak with the perfect mix of cool, self-assured confidence, and sincere humility, again because of Taido. Finally, after my many failures, I can tell myself that it is okay, and that the most important thing was that I had a good attitude and spirit, and that I did my best. Then I can calm myself, and begin working hard to try again, and again, until I succeed. Taido has helped me in countless additional ways throughout my life, and I truly hope that it will continue to bring me success in everything I do.” Sudarshan Muralidhar
