Free Sparring (Jissen)
Taido emphasizes the useful application of all practiced techniques, and there is no better way to test this than free sparring. Taido's unique method of free sparring (Jissen) utilizes the creative movements and techniques in a way that promotes a constantly evolving form of combat. Students gain self-confidence in their ability to use their learned skills by testing them in a controlled combat format with fellow students.

Gymnastics
A main differentiator of Taido from other martial arts is the use of gymnastics or acrobatics as a means to move in a 3-dimensional approach. As one of our most attended classes, the gymnastics class maintains is popularity through its fast paced training of somersaults, cartwheels, round-offs, aerials, hand springs and flips. Students not only learn proper methods of utilizing gymnastics to escape attacks, but also gain confidence as they progress from beginners techniques to advanced.

Grappling
We are a self-defense school, and we take all aspects of defending one's self very seriously. A strong tool in ensuring a well rounded self defense is grappling, and a significant number of our students train in our grappling class. Grappling takes our students from learning the proper techniques of defending against grappling attacks, to counter attacks, and attacks aimed at controlling or submitting the opponent. Again, students gain a great deal of confidence and physical fitness through this class.

Top Gun
The Top Gun classes are available by invitation only and are reserved for the top students. Children and Teens are selected to participate in Top Gun based on a number of factors including techniques, attitude, behavior, grades in school, commitment, etc. These classes are frequently taught by U.S. Taido founder Mits Uchida. Top Gun students make up the majority of Taido demonstration teams.
